Barkstreet, a dachshund in a bow tie and polished shoes, sitting with his black briefcase on the parquet of the old exchange

The short side of finance

Barkstreet

He carries one briefcase and several firm opinions.

Opening Routine

The morning route is fixed from parquet to pavement. Nothing moves until the bow tie agrees with prevailing conditions.

  1. Opening Bell

Bow tie straightens at 08:57 sharp.

  2. First Brief

One black case arrives, contents undisclosed.

  3. Shoe Check

Four paws enter two polished shoes.

  4. Ticker

    BRKST, read before crossing downtown.

  5. Closing Bell

Business ends when the briefcase clicks.

Street Counsel

Barkstreet works the narrow block between the bakery and the old exchange. He accepts no appointments, only nods. The briefcase contains a spare biscuit, one clean handkerchief and a document nobody has been cleared to read. At noon he inspects every polished doorway, then returns to the parquet before the light changes. His advice is brief, correct and usually delivered beside a shoe.
